India’s first Women’s Kabaddi League (WKL) was inaugurated in Dubai. After the success of the Men’s Pro Kabaddi League, it is a new beginning for the women sportsperson. The league consists of eight teams with a total of 96 players, each representing one Indian state. The winning team will receive a prize of approximately 0.5 million dirhams (equivalent to INR 1 billion).

Under India’s G20 chairmanship, the Fourth G20 Working Group on Education will be held in Pune from June 20-21. It is expected to be attended by 85 delegates from G-20 member states, host countries and international organizations such as OECD, UNESCO and UNICEF. As part of this meeting, a multimedia exhibition will be organized to showcase best practices in education, digital initiatives, research and skills development.

Axis Bank has appointed NS Vishwanathan, former deputy governor of the Reserve Bank of India, as non-executive chairman. The bank’s board appointed Vishwanathan for a three-year term. Apart from Axis Bank, Vishwanathan was appointed as head of the advisory board at Razorpay in April 2023. Vishwanathan joined the RBI in 1981 and retired as Deputy Governor in March 2020.

The Pune-based Inter-University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) has built a unique space telescope, the Solar Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (SUIT). It will be used in ISRO’s first solar mission Aditya-L1. This space telescope will provide a complete disk image of the Sun in the 2000 to 4000 A wavelength range, which has never been possible before. This space telescope will be launched with seven payloads as part of the Aditya-L1 mission.

Indian shuttlers Satwiksiraj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history by winning India’s first men’s doubles gold medal in Indonesia Open badminton history. This is India’s first gold medal in any doubles category at the Indonesia Open. The pair won the title by defeating reigning world champions Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the final.

6. (c) Gandhi Peace Prize

A committee headed by Prime Minister Modi has decided to award Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh-based Gita Press with the Gandhi Peace Prize-2021 after completing 100 years. This award is given for significant and unique contribution to the collective upliftment of humanity by Gita Press. This award is symbolic of Gandhi’s way of life.

7. d) Lebanon

India won the Intercontinental Cup by defeating Lebanon at the Kalinga Stadium. With this win, India claimed their second win against Lebanon after 46 years. Sunil Chhetri scored for India in the 46th minute and Chhangte in the 66th minute. India received $50,000 and runner-up Lebanon received a $25,000 reward. India’s Sandesh Jhingan was named the player of the tournament.
